There has also been a lot of activity in the Suncatcher Eyes Flickr group.  Come join us to share what you've made with Suncatcher Eyes and Crochet Patterns and to see all the wonderful things everyone else has made!

Frosted Suncatcher Eyes

  • Nov. 9th, 2008 at 2:11 PM

I wanted to get this pattern out to you all so you could make some for gift giving.  The best part is that this pattern is perfect for beginners to amigurumi.  If you can crochet in the round, you can make these little guys.  You don't have to use that fuzzy or furry yarn to make them.

The pattern has all the info you need, including what types of yarn work best.  You will need a pet slicker brush for this pattern.

As always, this pattern is free to use and free to sell whatever you make with it.  Just don't sell the pattern ^.^

Poofs (Pygmy Puffs) Pattern

To help everyone get a head start on their holiday crafting, large combo packs of Suncatcher Eyes have been marked down 15%.  That's more than $16 off the 112-pair pack.  What are you waiting for?  Get them in my Etsy shop or through the Suncatcher Eyes website.

I just love these sparkly new jewel tones.  Right now they are only available in my Etsy shop.  I hope to have them added to the Suncatcher Eyes website sometime in November.

It's almost Nose-vember!

All through the month of November (Nose-vember!), I will be including a few noses with each order of Suncatcher Eyes.  My choice, but feel free to request certain noses and I'll do my best to give you the ones you want :)

Photo aggravation

  • Oct. 10th, 2008 at 10:14 AM

I really like how these eyes turned out, except for one thing.  If you look closely, you can see the lens of my camera in the pupils.

Is there a way to photograph shiny things without a reflection?

Business isn't easy

  • Sep. 25th, 2008 at 6:38 PM

You create a new product.  It's something new to the online marketplace.  You build a business and a client base.  You work hard for years to keep customers happy, fill orders on time, and promote your business.

Then along comes another seller.  This seller hasn't created a new product.  They've stolen your idea instead.  They don't need to work hard for years because they can target your client base.  Every new idea you have, they steal.  Want to offer 5 for $5?  What a great idea, they are going to offer that too.  Want to offer custom orders?  Great idea!  They'll offer it too.  Want to offer bulk pricing for larger orders?  Great!  They will too.  How about stripes?  What a good idea!  They'll make some too.  Hey, that's a cool choice of words.  They'll use it too!

At first I tried to look at this as a positive, that it would make me work harder at my business and create a better product.  Then the other copying began, blatant outright copying, over and over again.  It is disheartening.  They say don't mix business and personal, but I can't help it.  This is someone stealing my ideas, and there is nothing I can do about it.

This isn't about competition.  I have a lot of competitors where I sell my products, and you know what?  I'm friends with most of them.  It's nice to talk to someone who knows your business like you do. But this person has been nothing but hostile and "in your face" about her business, at least to other sellers.  To buyers, she puts on a different face.

I wish I could post this person's name.  I wish I could let her customers know about her lack of business ethics.  But I can't.  Because it doesn't work that way.  It would look bad on my business to do that.  But,hey, this is my personal blog, and this is an incredibly personal problem.  It's like someone copying off you in high school for an important test.  You study and benefit from your hard work, and they goof off and benefit from YOUR hard work too.  Oh Karma, where are you?

Suncatcher Eyes Duos!

  • Sep. 18th, 2008 at 10:29 AM

Two eyes, two colors!  A pale and transparent color on the inside with a darker color on the outside.  These eyes have even more depth than regular Suncatcher Eyes.

Duos are only available in my Etsy shop for now, but they will be available at the Suncatcher Eyes website soon.

Dam Trolls

  • Sep. 9th, 2008 at 10:02 AM

Way back when I was little, Skandia Dam Trolls were $1.50 at Spencer Gifts. My best friend and I had a lot of them. We built tree houses for our trolls in the shrubs between our houses. We built tables, chairs, bunk beds, and even made clothes and fur coats for them.

Now I'm kicking myself for not saving them. Did you know that Dam Trolls are collectibles now? They are going for $25 and up! I only like one kind of troll because it is the kind I used to collect in the "good old days". I found this one on Ebay at a good price and couldn't resist that cute face:

The only other ones I'd like to get are orange hair and pink hair/blue eyes (which is rare).
